The 7 days Uganda Rwenzori mountain climbing adventure, Rwenzori trekking safari takes you to Rwenzori national park. Located in western Uganda bordering Congo, and covers an area of 996 square kilometers. Mount Rwenzori is also known as the “mountains of the moon|” it is 5110 meters above sea level making it the third highest mountain in Africa and the hardest to climb in all mountains of Africa. Its highest peak is called Margherita. It was gazetted in 1991 as a national park. The climb gives stunning and spectacular views good for photography and filming. Since mount Rwenzori is very challenging, day hikes can be organized for those who are less experienced and those who don’t want to reach the peaks of mount Rwenzori.

Our safari guide/driver will pick you up from the airport or your hotel and transfer you to Kasese for a mountaineering safari. You will head towards the western part of Uganda. You will have a stopover in Mubende for quick snacks and refreshments. Have lunch in Fort Portal city. Continue to Kasese, reach the lodge, and check in for dinner, and an overnight stay.Accommodation: Trekkers hostel

You will wake up in the morning, and have breakfast at 6:30 am. Head out for a 2.2km walk to UWA headquarters for a briefing about mount Rwenzori activities and rules of the national park. You will walk 2km guided by UWA rangers, through grasslands and ferns. The path gives breathtaking pristine montane forest. The forest is well-preserved and has a variety of trees and plants. You will hear and see many species of birds in this rich ecosystem environment. The first few kilometers climb steadily crossing many small streams and rivers where you start climbing the ridge. As you climb in the forest, you may hear and see many types of primates. You may hear troupes of chimpanzees chanting around in the valleys. You will have lunch when you reach 2,570m, and it's possible to see groups of 15 to 20 black and white colobus monkeys, and blue monkeys as they dash through the trees. After you will continue to climb steadily passing through a rock shelter at 2,785m. The shelter was used by poachers to hunt primates. You will enter into a bamboo zone and the path becomes steeper. You will finally break out of the bamboo to magnificent views over the valleys and hills looking across to Queen Elizabeth national park and Lake George in a distance. You will camp at Samalira.Accommodation: Samalira camp

After a yummy breakfast in the morning, you will start walking at 8:00 am climbing steadily, and crossing a small stream. It will become steeper for about 200 meters up a narrow moss-covered ridge. The scenery here is spectacular. The view gives a good impression as you look across the many ridges and valleys far below. As you continue, the climb becomes less steep as you pass over Chavumba at 3,316m. You will trek across a small flat valley, and climb a steady ridge through moss-covered trees and mist forest to the top at 3,515m. continue with a steady walk for about 1km before reaching a steep descent of 200m with good footing into the Nyamwamba valley. You will have lunch at Poly’s Rock Shelter. You will later climb above the Nyamwamba River for 1.6km through giant heathers at Kiharo camp. Dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.

You will have a yummy breakfast in the morning. Commence your trek climbing a steep section passing through moss covered boulders. You will move the moss-covered forests of giant heather trees. The surrounding is ever green and this is the most stunning across the entire Rwenzori Mountain ranges. After 1 km, you will pass below high cliffs and beautiful open basins. About 3km along the valley, turn left About-adjoining valley to Lake Nsurania. Cross the to the top of a steep drop to Mutinock Shelter with excellent views. Descend to the valley, cross a fast-flowing river. Climb up to Mutinda Rock where you will camp. Dinner and an overnight stay.Accommodation: Mutinda camp

You will have an early morning breakfast, start a 5.1km climb from Mutinda to Kalalaand ma camp, perched on a high ridge overlooking the Rwenzori foothill and Lake George. You will descend down to the camp at 3,134m. The section is breathtaking as you hop across moss covered rocks. It is closed between cmoss-covereding different micro-environment. You will pass through a magnificent flat valley with a lobelia garden. Continue with the walk down to Kalalama camp. Accommodation: Kalalama camp

Wake up early morning, and have breakfast. Descend through the bamboo forest, and cross the trail you used to climb to Samalira camp. You will have a lunch break before walking the final distance through the montane forest. You will go to the ranger spot at 1,727m for debriefing. Walk a 2km back to the Trekkers hostel.Accommodation: Trekkers hostel

You will have breakfast at 6:30 am. Start your journey back to Kampala. You will have lunch en route. The safari guide will drop you at the airport or hotel in Kampala. End of a 7 days Uganda mountaineering safari.
