Today is the highlight of your entire safari, mountain gorilla tracking in Bwindi. Rise early for a hearty breakfast before heading to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) ranger station for your pre-trek briefing. Here, expert rangers will introduce you to the gorilla family you will be visiting and outline the regulations for your encounter. You will then set off into the dense, mist-drenched forest accompanied by skilled trackers and armed rangers. The trek through Bwindi’s steep and rugged terrain can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location – but every step through this magical jungle is rewarded with extraordinary flora, birdlife, and the sense of adventure that only Bwindi can offer. The moment you come face-to-face with a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You are permitted one hour with the gorillas, observing them feed, nurse, play, and go about their day with remarkable human-like familiarity. Only 8 visitors are allowed per gorilla family per day, making this an intimate and deeply personal encounter.
Following lunch at the lodge, embark on the Batwa Trail – an immersive and deeply moving cultural experience led by the Batwa people, the original forest-dwelling inhabitants of Bwindi, often referred to as ‘Keepers of the Forest.’ Your Batwa guides will lead you through the forest, sharing their extraordinary ancestral knowledge of medicinal plants, demonstrating traditional hunting with bows and arrows, performing traditional songs and dances, and narrating the stories of a way of life stretching back thousands of years. This experience is both humbling and profoundly inspiring -a rare window into one of Africa’s most ancient forest cultures. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay

An early breakfast, head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi Plains in the heart of the park as the first light breaks over Lake Edward. Kasenyi is one of Africa’s finest big-cat territories: resident prides of lions are regularly seen stalking herds of Uganda kob -the national symbol and one of the most numerous antelopes in East Africa – on the open plains, while male kob gather at spectacular lekking grounds where they compete for females through elaborate display. Spotted hyenas, side-striped jackals, and warthogs are also frequently encountered during morning hours. The park supports over 10,000 elephants, and small family herds often cross the tracks in the early morning. Your guide will switch off the engine and allow you to observe in complete silence as the herd moves past within metres of the vehicle. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The channel is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in Africa: the world’s largest concentration of hippos crowds the shallows, numbering in the thousands, while massive crocodiles bask on the muddy banks and enormous herds of Cape buffalo come to drink. The birdlife is extraordinary: African skimmers skim the water’s surface at speed, flocks of pink-backed pelicans drift in formation, and the iconic African fish eagle calls from the treetops. Your guide will identify over thirty species during the cruise. As the sun begins to set, the boat drifts back toward the jetty, the channel turning copper and rose. Go back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Rise before dawn for a 6:00 a.m. breakfast, and later go for a game drive across the sweeping savannah plains of the North Bank sector, one of the richest wildlife areas in East Africa. Your driver-guide will navigate the park’s network of murram tracks as the rising sun paints the grassland gold – the ideal light for photography. Murchison Falls is home to over 76 mammal species: lions are frequently spotted on rocky outcrops or stalking Uganda kob in the tall grass, Rothschild’s giraffes (one of Africa’s most endangered subspecies) browse the acacia canopy, and large herds of elephant and Cape buffalo move between the river and the plains. Side-striped jackals, oribi, and waterbuck are common sightings, and the park holds the world’s second-largest concentration of hippopotami. Return to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon, you’ll embark on a two-hour afternoon boat cruise from Paraa Jetty along the Victoria Nile toward the base of the falls. The riverbanks are lined with Nile crocodiles sunbathing on sandbars, schools of hippos surfacing just metres from the boat, and an extraordinary variety of water birds, including the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork, African fish eagle, goliath heron, and pink-backed pelican. As the boat approaches the base of the falls, the roar of the water becomes deafening, and the spray catches the afternoon light in a rainbow. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
