Tanzania
Africa’s classic safari destination
Discover Tanzania
With over one third of its land dedicated as national parks or reserves, starring the Big Five and the Great Wildebeest Migration, it’s no wonder Tanzania is considered Africa’s classic safari destination for first-timers and connoisseurs alike.
Tanzania is your quintessential African destination. From vast savannahs playing host to hordes of wildebeest migrating, the majesty of the Serengeti and the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania offers adventures for everybody.
Home to the famed wildebeest migration for most of the year plus a healthy population of chimpanzees, this is a true safari heavyweight. But there's much more to Tanzania than the wildlife.
The country has some of the best mountain trekking in Africa, more than 500 miles of sublime coastline and a rich history as a spice route. And over all this profound beauty, the legendary Maasai people still stand proud.
Tanzania is an adventurous traveller's dream, whether you're on an organized safari, or for the particularly adventurous, self-driving, or taking public transportation. If you take your time and truly explore the country, you'll experience all kinds of different climates, sights, and cultures. Take a step back in time and roam around the old streets of Stone Town and relax on the powdery beaches around Zanzibar; scuba the clear waters around Mafia island; or climb Africa’s mightiest mountain – all 5,895m of it.
More than anything you will find that it is the Tanzanian people – with their characteristic warmth and politeness, and the dignity and beauty of their cultures – that make visiting Tanzania so memorable. Chances are you'll want to come back for more, to which most Tanzanians will say ‘karibu tena’ (welcome again).
When can i do my
Tanzania safari?
Safaris are best in the dry season, when the grasses are low and wildlife can easily be seen, so between June and October in Tanzania’s Northern and Southern safari circuits. This also coincides with the renowned river crossings of the Great Migration in Serengeti, making it the busiest and most expensive time to visit. As an alternative, visit the southern Serengeti in February when some 200,000 calves are born. Kilimanjaro is at its best – and busiest – from late June to September too, but December to March can also bring good conditions for climbing.
The best seasons for visiting Uganda
If you are thinking of visiting Tanzania - it's essential to take into consideration the varied weather conditions, which influences what type of adventure you can expect to experience. Visiting Tanzania during the rainy seasons or dry seasons have both advantages and disadvantages when spotting wild animals in Tanzania. It's important to research before you book your trip.
Here is a brief rundown of the seasons: During the months of July and September are peak months as this is when the weather is dry and warm, and if you are located in the Serengeti - you will have a good chance to witness the Great Migration too. This is why visiting Tanzania during these months is very popular.
Visiting Tanzania in September and the weather was perfect - it wasn't too hot nor too cold and the skies were blue and the weather dry but cool - perfect for game drives. We do recommend traveling here during these months, however If you want to avoid the big crowds then the Green Season which occurs between November and March is a great alternative. It's much quieter tourist wise and even though there are chances of rain showers, the weather is still pretty good.
